Futuro house at CSM
Slivers of the future
We are keen that the extraordinary setting of the Futuro House is used in the spirit of the project that the artist Craig Barnes (who has loaned us the Futuro) has initiated. We see the loan of the Futuro House to CSM as an opportunity for the college community to gather slivers of what the future might hold.
The following is a suggested protocol for use. It is not designed to restrict use, but to nudge any use so that in some way it has a futural orientation. We want any gathering within to take full advantage of the nourishment the Futuro House can offer.
“So everybody had his own attitude coming to me to be free from gravity, from earthly nourishment, they got into another nourishment, they got into the nourishment of the future world.” Charles Wilp - artist, photographer, and Futuro house owner (1971 - 1983)

We are encouraging and supporting a curated events programme for Futuro House, as part of a series based on futural aspects of The Intelligent Optimist. You can make an internal enquiry by clicking the button above. You will thenreceive guidelines and a proposal form for a curated proposal from Laura McNamara - CSM Creative Producer (Gallery & Public Spaces) .
3. Commerical hire of the Futuro house
Futuro House is also available for relevant commercial hire. For further details on commercial use contact the CSM Innovation and Business team using the button below.
We propose that every event at the Futuro House, however small, should contribute a view, challenge, or propose alternative interpretations to what the idea of the future might hold. The future need not be the dominant theme of every activity, but it is hoped that you should at least consider your contribution to future-thinking as part of the event, and leave a trace of this futural speculation.
These speculations will be collected as ‘Slivers of the Future’, a chronicle of how CSM engages with the future.
To this end, when booking the Futuro (via Celcat) please consider the following questions.
- What aspect of the future do you hope to address?
- How do you intend to collect these slivers of the future?
Use the Futuro house, create your sliver of the future
When using the Futuro house at CSM, please include some form of activity that is specifically future-looking, and document this activity and the outcome. The documentation may take any form (images, film, written content, etc) and can be brief, or more detailed.
You will then be asked to add this content to the shared blog as part of this website. You will be provided with the login details and instructions of how to contribute your entry upon booking the Futuro House. We ask you to consider the following question: what aspect of the future do you hope to address?
